I had a similar experience sometime back, except that it was in the reverse. Let me relate it.
I work in Bangalore, and this happened a few months back, when I went to my hometown in Kerala. I read the Satcharitha everyday and was carrying a copy of the same with me. At home, I came to know that my neighbour(shes only in her early thirties) and childhood friend has cancer in her stomach and her condition is very serious. She was undergoing a series of chemotherapy sessions. I wanted to give her my Satcharitha copy when I went to see her, but I was too emabarassed to do it. So I gave it to my mother and asked her to give it, when I was leaving home (BTW my parents arent Sai devotees). A couple of days later my mother called me and said she went and gave the Satcharitha to my neighbour, and they were really happy and excited on receiving it. Seems they had read/heard about the Satcharitha 4-5 days back from somewhere and were trying to figure out where to get a copy from, when my mother went and gave it to them (there are not many Shirdi Sai temples in Kerala and buying the Satcharitha in Kerala is not an easy job, I think). And ofcourse I was also very happy to hear this, bcos Baba had chosen me to do this.

Reminds me of some stories from the Satcharitha where Baba arranged for getting some people to Shirdi, when the thought of seeing Baba arose in their minds.
